L D R U

This guy has too many good remixes/originals and because I can’t pinpoint a specific song, I’m just gonna review the lot.

L D R U is Drew Carmody and he’s been kicking around for just over a year now. Like seemingly every good Australian artist these days, he’s signed to Future Classic and makes very Future Classic-esque music. His original song “The Tropics” that he released earlier in the year very much mirrors its name and has such perfect hard-hitting trap beats. Once you start listening, you won’t be able to stop. He also manages to remake that classic and veering-on-corny air horn into something really cool, which is not easy, to say the least. The video clip is directed by Ego, who melds video and DJing together, and is a trippy, colourful feast for the eyes – if you ever need reminding of why summer is the shit, please watch it.

Recently, L D R U has been bringing out solid remix after solid remix – he’s taken on mostly Australian artists like YesYou and The Aston Shuffle. Personally, I recommend checking out his version of Miami Horror‘s “Real Slow”. It’s trapical at its best, with an amazing build up and drop. His latest remix is of the much loved Flume song “Insane” featuring Moon Holiday where he warps the already warped up beats further. It’s like a saturation of Flume – but you can never have too much!

L D R U has just recently done a fair few gigs but you can still catch him at Field Day on New Years. Otherwise, according to his Facebook, we can look forward to some new tunes soon.

THE BREAKDOWN:

Hometown: Sydney, Australia.
Sounds like: Indian Summer, Flume, Panama.
Say what? L D R U or “Left Down Right Up” is a Grand Theft Auto cheat reference.
